Prime Minister hosts Spiritual Baptist/Shouter Liberation Day Dinner

In commemoration of Spiritual Baptist/Shouter Liberation Day, which was celebrated on Wednesday (March 30th), Prime Minister, Dr the Honourable Keith Rowley hosted a dinner this evening (Friday 1st April) at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s for members of the Spiritual Baptist/Shouter community.

The evening opened with powerful blessings and greetings by Archbishop Queen Mother Dorothy Hercules and His Grace Patriarch Stephen Julien, respectively. An inspiring and provocative presentation by Dr Hazel Ann Gibbs-DePeza spoke to the “glorious tale of resilience, survival and faith” of the Spiritual Baptist /Shouter community.

In his address Prime Minister Rowley expressed his pleasure that so many persons had accepted his invitation to dinner and moreso he noted the unity evident among the members of the faith at the event. In acknowledging the ostracism once faced by the community, he took the opportunity to praise the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago for moving away from discrimination to now embrace the Spiritual Baptist/Shouter.

In closing, the Prime Minister thanked those present for their contribution and efforts in integrating the Spiritual Baptist/Shouter Faith into the unique tapestry that is Trinidad and Tobago society.
